ABOUT THE BOOK

Book description. Trench is a gritty, character-driven war series told from the German perspective of the First World War. Far beyond the trenches, it follows soldiers across shifting fronts, from static warfare to mobile campaigns throughout Europe and beyond. Blending historical realism with deep research, the series also showcases real experimental and prototype weaponry that existed before, during, and after the war. Month by month, battle by battle, Trench presents an unflinching look at the human cost, military innovation, and forgotten truths of a world at war.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jake Barrett, an accomplished historian, has been studying the Great War since 2016. Reared in a military family, Jake was educated in the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. He took an early interest in his family's involvement in European wars, from the Franco-Prussian war to the Great War, having had grandfathers in both. At the end of each war his forebearers migrated to the Americas; one went to the United States of America in the 1870's, the other to the Republic of Panama in the 1920's. Jake has written this historical fictional narrative, using his characters to demonstrate a perspective from his own German heritage. I purchased both volumes 1&2 for my mom for Christmas this past year. She absolutely loved the history behind the plot. In her words, "it's a thrilling page turner". My mother is a history buff and her home library has books from every genre. I am so glad I made this purchase for her to add to her library. She is excited for the continuation of the novels.

I have read every book imaginable concerning the Great War over the years. I now have a book that does what no other book has attempted. It shows many if not all of the weapons of war and the machines used in war, whether prototypes or those that made it to the battlefield. That interests me no end. No one else has done that. As a weapons of war fanatic, that excited me from the get go and i commend the author. The story is in sequence of various battles starting on or about February 1915 and is written from a young German get-go soldier's diary perspective of what he encountered regularly with historic battles and the other soldiers he was involved. The main characters are made up, but, the interaction and missions they go on resemble what I have encountered in the military. I am very impressed by the extensive research the author has done in writing about the Great War. All of this from a German soldiers perspective, something I have not witnessed since watching the film version of ''All Quiet On the Western Front''. To say the least I enjoyed reading this book quite a bit and recommend it to all. soldier's
