The Author
Jake Barrett is an accomplished historian and the author of the Trench series — a historically grounded war saga that redefines how World War I is told, through the lens of German soldiers. Reared in a military family, Jake was educated across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. He developed an early interest in his family’s involvement in European wars, spanning from the Franco-Prussian War to the Great War, with grandfathers who served in both. Following each war, his forebearers migrated to the Americas — one to the United States in the 1870s, the other to the Republic of Panama in the 1920s.
Since 2016, Jake has devoted himself to studying the First World War in depth. His work reflects not only a deep respect for historical accuracy but also a commitment to showcasing rarely explored perspectives. The Trench series brings to life the psychological toll, shifting battlefronts, and lesser-known mobile operations of the war, while also incorporating real experimental and prototype weaponry that existed before, during, and after the conflict.
This series is the culmination of years of study, research, and storytelling, driven by Jake’s passion for the subject and his German heritage. Through his characters and narrative, he invites readers to experience the war as it truly was: brutal, human, and unforgettable.
